On the 12th of August 2025, Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) proudly hosted the inaugural lecture of Professor Bosede Olukemi Lawal, esteemed Professor of Agricultural Extension and Rural Sociology. Titled “Navigating the World of Sustainable Food Security: Odyssey of a Change Enabler,” the lecture drew a distinguished audience, including the Vice Chancellor, principal officers, provosts of colleges, deans of faculties, the Director and management team of the Institute of Agricultural Research and Training (IAR&T), professional colleagues, non-academic staff, farmers, and an array of invited guests.
In her lecture, Professor Abosede Lawal shared insights from her extensive journey at OAU and her lifelong dedication to advancing agriculture. She outlined the persistent gaps in sustainable agricultural development in Nigeria and articulated her pivotal role as a change enabler working to address the critical challenge of food insecurity. Highlighting her hands-on involvement in farming and the integration of technology, she demonstrated the transformative impact these efforts have had on agricultural productivity and rural livelihoods.
Professor Lawal also reflected on her significant contributions to administrative services within the university, underscoring her commitment to academic leadership and institutional development. Her scholarly journey has been marked by numerous accolades, grants, and fellowships, earning her recognition as a fellow of several prestigious international bodies.
Throughout her career, Professor Lawal has actively participated in global academic and professional exchanges, attending conferences, workshops, and project meetings across countries such as South Africa, Swaziland, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Namibia, the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Netherlands, Italy, Croatia, and Slovakia. Among her distinguished awards are the African Plant Nutrition Institute Award, the African Women in Agricultural Research and Development Award, and the Australian African Award.
